Frequently asked questions

What happens in the free consultation?

The free 15-minute phone consultation will allow us to begin get to know each other to determine if we could be a good match for therapy. I will learn more about what you are seeking through therapy, and how I may be helpful in you reaching your goals.

Do you accept insurance?

We take Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Massachusetts insurance, and are considered out of network with all other insurances. Upon request, your counselor can provide you with the documentation needed for you to file with your insurance company or for HSA or FSA reimbursement if you do not have BCBS of Massachusetts insurance.

How do I find out more about my out-of-network mental health insurance benefits?

To learn more about out of network benefits in general, click here. Information about your specific out of network benefits is often found by taking a look at your health insurance summary of benefits. You can also call your insurance company to get clarity on your benefits. Here are a few questions that can be helpful to ask when you call:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits for outpatient therapy?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health visits?

  • How much of my deductible has been met this year?

  • Are CPT codes 90834 or 90837 covered by my plan?

  • How do I submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement?

Do you provide telehealth or in-person therapy options?

I provide telehealth and walk-and-talk therapy services at this time. For telehealth clients, our sessions will occur on a HIPPA-compliant video conferencing software.

For clients who benefit from movement and being outdoors while processing, walk-and-talk therapy may be a good fit. Clients who are interested in walk-and-talk therapy can expect to complete their first few sessions virtually before transitioning to walk-and-talk sessions.

What is your approach to therapy?

I am client-centered, relational, and grief & trauma informed in my approach to therapy. I often incorporate tools such as mindfulness, expressive approaches, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to to address each client’s unique needs. I have specialized training in grief and loss therapy, mind-body and somatic therapy, as well as integrating creative arts in therapy.

What can I expect during my first few sessions?

During your first few therapy sessions, you can expect a welcoming, non-judgmental space focused on understanding your unique needs and goals. The first two or three sessions, often called intake or assessment appointments, involve gathering background information, discussing your goals and expectations, discussing the therapy process, and addressing any questions or concerns you may have. This is an opportunity for me to begin to get to know you, for you to ask questions you may have about the therapeutic process, and for us to gauge whether working together will best suit your needs. My hope for our first few sessions is to establish a solid foundation for your therapeutic journey, and for us to begin fostering a collaborative and supportive therapeutic partnership.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of therapy can vary greatly depending many factors, such as the nature of the issues being addressed, the approaches or techniques used by the therapist, and the unique needs of the client. Some clients find that a few sessions are enough to gain the insights and tools they need to make positive changes, while others may feel longer-term support and guidance is a better fit.

Therapy is a process that takes time and commitment, and progress is not always linear or predictable. I work collaboratively with clients to set realistic goals and expectations, and aim to maintain an open and honest dialogue with each client throughout the therapeutic process.

Do I need to commit to weekly sessions, or can I schedule and cancel whenever I want?

I encourage clients to commit to meeting either weekly or every-other-week on a recurring basis. If you have a scheduling conflict, I will do my best to find a reschedule option that works. Please note that there is a 24-hour cancellation notice required if you need to reschedule your appointment. Less than a 24-hour notice will result in a charge for a full session.
